I really loved working on my MPP last year because it gave me the freedom to try new styles and do whatever I wanted with the music that inspires me. I decided to pick it up again and do a few this year.

I love this woman’s music and everything she is about, fun, good beats, crazy lyrics (sometimes inappropriate :/), but amazing nonetheless. I did two versions, a red and a yellow, which do you prefer?? I also had some fun messing around with actions in PSD and doing a glitch. Coolnesssss!

The typography on this thing was a beast because I had to cut the letters out perfectly to do the opposite colours. I’m sure there is a better way to do it and the pros are just laughing at me but I love how it turned out and I think it’s perfect for their brand. This band has become quite popular over the last year with their song “Unsteady”. I have loved this song and several others of their as well and wanted to do a fan poster for them. I loved working with the beautiful foggy forest image and the chunky serif font and I really like how it turned out. This is literally the perfect band for the season; totally mellow and moody for those days spent inside.

I have loved this band for a very long time. They aren’t widely known but I feel like they should be because of their cool sound that gets me so pumped when I design.

I pictured a clean font for this poster before I thought of anything else. Since they are very modern but also very smooth I felt like they needed a deep moody color palette to work with. I love green, (I painted my master bedroom accent wall this color green) so I looked for an image that I could spice up and do the kaleidoscope effect to. I love pairing really complex artwork with really simple type, I think it adds an awesome balance to everything for a final product. The reason I chose this band is because of the feeling it gives me when I listen to them. The song Saturn made me cry the first time I listened to it because it is so deep and so moving with its beautiful lyrics and instrumental moments. I think it makes me ponder on life and the reason we are here, the things we should remember and the things that are really important. My favourite line is “How rare and beautiful it is to even exist.” Something about that just resonates with me and the trials that I am going through right now. Life is so special and unique and I hope you get something out of this too.

If you know anything about me over the last few years, site you know Young Summer is one of my favs. I have probably posted a number of their songs on my blog and therefore decided they were a perfect band for me to do some fan art for. Their songs are so soft and seriously sound like summer at the beach. They have a good beat but not too much rowdiness and the lyrics are fantastic.

For the design I wanted something that showed what I saw in my head, viagra sale a sunset. I loved the pinks and purples that made this one more girly and soft. The typography needed to add some contrast so I did very modern almost barcode looking elements at the bottom. The YS was really fun too because I got to play around with a logo mark and I really love how it turned out.

One of my husbands favourite bands to listen to while we are jamming in the car is Daft Punk. I like how they have a mysterious electronic sound with a great beat in every song, even if you can’t really understand the lyrics, haha. It kind of reminds me of my “Barbie Girl” days along with others songs like “Da da da” and “I’m Blue” if you even know what I am talking about (old lady).

I wanted to show the futuristic feel of their music in this poster by using the neon colored lights and the spacey blue colors in a really modern font. Although neon lights are kind of old school they still look modern because of the glow and the colors and the trend is regenerating back into design so it was a good match.

Who doesn’t love Lorde and all the cool sounds she gives us. I am a huge fan of hers, and I love her unique style. When I was designing this I thought about her song Yellow Flicker Beat and how cool and and edgy it is. I used an ink blot (because I have always wanted to) and a geometric gold shape on top to add the bit of Royals into it. I picture her brand to be clean and creative so I really tried to do that with a lot of white space and then a focal point in the center. I think I have synesthesia that when you see words or letters you see color, except I have visions of cool designs or settings when I hear music or sounds.

Although I love design and everything that goes with it, my first love is music, all kinds of music. I wanted to do a project this year that let me be creative while highlighting some of my favourite music artists. I really wanted to explore my ability to translate their music into a style that describes them well. I am planning to highlight one band per month with a poster design and a matching album cover.

My first band is TRANSVIOLET. I discovered them last fall and seriously love all that they touch. The lyrics are real and relatable and the beats are so unique that I would put them in the “Me” genre because they are exactly what I’m all about.
