]]>LORDE | UNTIL THE RIBBON BREAKS
X AMBASSADORS | THE CHAINSMOKERS
I was just talking to my mom about how lucky I am that I get to do what I love everyday (take care of my baby) and design cool things that express my creativity. This may sound weird but I have never felt like I was in my true element until now.The only other time was when I was a cheerleader in high school, I was so passionate about it and I loved being busy with something I loved. Since then I have been searching for that thing that truly fulfilled me. I thought it would be my husband, which did fulfill a different part of my life. Then my baby which has brought so much joy to our family but I think I have finally felt the creative happiness that I have been looking for for so long through design. In the past, I have loved designing but I think I felt empty without the other two things in my life and now I can say I truly have it all.
I chose to do this project because it wasn’t commissioned and I had 100% control over what I wanted to do. Music is my language and I am super passionate about it so choosing some of my favs to make fan art was so much fun. I also wanted to design some popular artists and some not so common, so those who followed my project would discover how great they are too. Well I hope you enjoy the completed Music Poster Project.
XOXOXXX

]]>The typography on this thing was a beast because I had to cut the letters out perfectly to do the opposite colours. I’m sure there is a better way to do it and the pros are just laughing at me but I love how it turned out and I think it’s perfect for their brand. Let me know what you think and if you have other bands you would like to share please write them below, I am always looking for new jams.

]]>This band has become quite popular over the last year with their song “Unsteady”. I have loved this song and several others of their as well and wanted to do a fan poster for them. I loved working with the beautiful foggy forest image and the chunky serif font and I really like how it turned out. This is literally the perfect band for the season; totally mellow and moody for those days spent inside.

]]>I have loved this band for a very long time. They aren’t widely known but I feel like they should be because of their cool sound that gets me so pumped when I design.
I pictured a clean font for this poster before I thought of anything else. Since they are very modern but also very smooth I felt like they needed a deep moody color palette to work with. I love green, (I painted my master bedroom accent wall this color green) so I looked for an image that I could spice up and do the kaleidoscope effect to. I love pairing really complex artwork with really simple type, I think it adds an awesome balance to everything for a final product. If you get some time and you like unique music, you should check out my recommended songs below.
Ciao,

We are getting down to the last few poster designs for this year. I think I have decided to do book covers next year to get some practice in for my own book series that I have been writing since 2008! Ya i know it’s taking foreverrrrrrr but it has been so fun and come so far.
I chose to do Bastille because well, who doesn’t love their music? I feel like the name is classic which reminds me of my study abroad in Italy so I chose to use a sculpted bust as my focus. Since they have such a fun sound I added the watercolor splashes and the flowy typography to help bring that in a little more. I loved designing this poster, it just brought back so many memories from my European travels and design school; it’s crazy to see how far I’ve come since then. The links to my favourite songs are below and a link to a dance poster I made years ago inspired by their song Of the Night.
xoxo, Kirsten

]]>It’s been a while since my last Music Poster Project post (say that five times fast) but since I’ve been on maternity break I have had a few hours here and there to finish up the last few for this year so keep your eye out for the rest.
This design was inspired by a band called Ritual, which I discovered on Spotify (the best invention of my life…truly). They have such an elegant sound with beautiful lyrics so I really wanted to do a poster based on my favourite song Josephine. I used a vintage floral inside the elegant drop cap and then added the script text on black to add depth and drama to the image. Let me know if you get the same vibes that I did when you listen to their music.
In celebration of hitting 11k Pinterest followers, I thought I would tell you about Pinners Conference this weekend in Utah for anyone who wants to be inspired. Honestly I don’t know what I would do if Pinterest hadn’t been invented, finding inspo before then was difficult and took five times the amount of time and now there is a conference where you can meet the people who make all the awesome pins and DIY’s (mind blown). It’s my first time going and I am super excited to meet all those bloggers!
My Favourite Ritual Songs:
Josephine | Bottle Tops | Too Deep

]]>Although I love design and everything that goes with it, my first love is music, all kinds of music. I wanted to do a project this year that let me be creative while highlighting some of my favourite music artists. I really wanted to explore my ability to translate their music into a style that describes them well. I am planning to highlight one band per month with a poster design and a matching album cover.
My first band is TRANSVIOLET. I discovered them last fall and seriously love all that they touch. The lyrics are real and relatable and the beats are so unique that I would put them in the “Me” genre because they are exactly what I’m all about.
Check out my top three songs on youtube or spotify and stay tuned for more music inspo.
